Carol Haine was born in Sutton but grew up in Cranleigh. In 1983, at Godalming sixth form college, she was advised to do a Jewellery CSE as an extra to her A level studies, and got hooked. Studies continued at the West Surrey College of Art and Design, followed by a BA(Hons) in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied Crafts at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts at London Guildhall University.
In 1991 she became self-employed, specialising in one-off commissions. With her experience in both design and making, Carol is able to interpret the customer’s ideas, to produce unique pieces of jewellery, never to be found on the high street.
Carol considers jewellery to be an extension of the wearer’s personality and that it is very important to ensure that the design is a true representation of the client’s wishes. She can create new pieces in silver, gold, platinum and precious gem stones, but is also very happy to use the customer’s old jewellery and turn it into something contemporary.
Collectables, dealers from the Portobello Rd and a Savile Row tailor are among Carol’s long term clients, and she makes badges for a number of the counties and regions within the Guide Association; these include the national “Thank You” badge for the Trefoil Guild.
Carol is an accomplished designer and maker of fine precious jewellery “………anything from platinum and diamond rings to copper bangles….”
