James Thompson - Artist; musician
James graduated in Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art and Design in 1990. After a year working at and exhibiting with the Bristol Printmakers Workshop, he studied for an MA at Wimbledon School of Art, graduating in printmaking in 1994.
He has exhibited work in the UK and abroad and lately online (see below).
Initially influenced by English abstract and landscape painters such as Ivon Hitchens, Peter Lanyon and Patrick Heron, James’ art evolved through print into works of cultural satire with a diverse range of imagery drawn from William Blake to Star Trek! He has also had occasional forays into sculpture and ceramics as well as a continuing interest in photography (see below for website link).
Classically taught on the viola James became interested in traditional music and the violin driven alternative rock of The Mekons and Camper Van Beethoven while at art school. He has played fiddle and bouzouki in a number of bands, most recently with London based alt. country outfit The Dog Roses. Demo CD available.
James works from his studio at home in Cranleigh.
