Marilyn Bailey - Artist
Marilyn studied at St Martin’s School of Art in the early 1970s, then travelled as an experiential film-maker. Capturing the people she encountered on film as well as in sketches, she recognised her fascination with people and began transferring her work on to canvas. This process helps Marilyn to see her subjects clearly amongst the eclectic mix of film-making, dance, performance, photography, drawing and painting that has enriched her career.

learnt at an art academy in Florence and which enable her to make paintings that have a marvellous clarity, striving too to capture her subjects' character.
Currently, Marilyn is working towards an exhibition of nudes and semi-clad figures. Her vision is of paintings and drawings that celebrate the female; body and mind, looks and eroticism, in a sense from “inside”, from a feminine understanding, not from “outside”. There is much that men cannot know!
The works will form a series of paintings in which figures are part-draped in cloth, or wearing just one or two random pieces of costume to give a surreal and theatrical temperament, evoking the term pictorial magic realism.
