Shalini Bhalla has been dancing for over 25 years and has been teaching dance for over 10 years. Since moving to Cranleigh seven years ago she has been actively involved in promoting the arts, especially dance, in the community through local schools and the local arts centre. She specialises in Bollywood dance workshops for adults in the community and children in schools.
Shalini has performed in Kenya, India, Switzerland and the UK, and in June 2006 produced and performed in the highly successful and well-received “asmâkam - the quest” at the Cranleigh Arts Centre. Recent, highly-successful performances include the cultural evening at Hadley Wood Golf Club in October 2006 and the Cranleigh Open Day in November 2006.
As well as dance workshops and performances, Shalini also delivers workshops and lecture-demonstrations on all aspects of Indian life and culture including film, fashion, food and religion and has just completed a major project with the Cranleigh Youth Club focusing on these aspects.
Shalini has worked as a freelance dance teacher for many London-based companies including the internationally renowned Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Create London and Eastside Educational Trust. She is also the Bollywood dance teacher for Cranleigh Dance & Theatre Arts.
At present Shalini is reading for her second Masters - an MA in South Asian Dance Studies at the University of Roehampton.
